All the Ways You’re Helping Animals In Labs

The Rise for Animals Team, December 28, 2023

As we approach the end of the year, we are reflecting on the incredible strides we’ve made together for animals.

2023 marked a significant milestone — the first year since 1937 that human drug approval no longer legally required animal experimentation, thanks to the passage of the FDA Modernization Act 2.0. And while that law is a monumental step, we still have much work to do. Our commitment to ending animal experimentation will persist until every cage is empty, and we need your support to get there.

Your support fuels crucial, life-saving initiatives like these:

Unveiling the Animal Research Industry

Leveraging the power of the Freedom of Information Act and state-level public records policies, we uncover and expose the documents and photos that laboratories never wanted you (or anyone else) to know. We release labs’ dirty secrets (like these ones from Blue Ridge Kennel, or these from the University of Washington) so animal researchers can no longer hide behind poor science and nonexistent ethics.

Advocating for Animal-Friendly Legislation

We monitor Congress for new legislation to find the best bills and create online advocacy actions that make it easy for you — and many thousands like you — to raise your voice in unison and protect more animals exploited for science than ever before. By urging your legislators to support humane cosmetics laws, favor alternatives to animal research, defund U.S dollars for foreign labs, and more, you’re doing your part to create a more just world for animals and people.

Uplifting Local Activism

From Rochester, NY to Portland, OR, we support and laud local grassroots efforts, ensuring that communities like yours have the backing they need to affect change and create precedent that saves countless animals in need of rescue.

Funding Animal-Free, Human-Relevant Science

New, human-relevant technologies are crucial in the reinvention of the research industry to better serve both people and animals. That is the reason we created the Center for Contemporary Sciences, and the reason we grant strategic funding to the brightest scientists like Dr. Charu Chandrasekera of the Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods.

Banding Together to Create a More Powerful Movement

Like you, we believe in the power of networking to grow and strengthen our movement to free animals from labs. That’s why we’ve been a part of the Leaping Bunny Program for decades, and why we regularly partner with allied organizations and groups in support of antivivisectionist initiatives across the country (and even overseas).

Fighting in the Courts for Animals’ Rights

Earlier in 2023, we secured a victory in federal court for the well-being of primates in labs. Going forward, we can’t wait to work further with Harvard’s Animal Law & Policy Clinic and the Animal Legal Defense Fund on an ongoing effort to secure legal protections for cephalopods used in research, plus embark on new opportunities using the judicial system to save animals used and abused in experiments.

Keeping the World Informed

Our regular release of blogs, emails, social media posts, and up-to-date news recaps ensure you’re never out of the loop regarding the latest happenings, insights, and actions for animals in labs. We make certain you’ll always be informed and feel empowered to rise alongside us for animals in labs.

Support Rise for Animals

At Rise for Animals, our strategic, multifaceted plan to free animals from the cruel and needless research industry leaves no stone unturned.

We’ve made so much progress this last year. Let’s make more history in 2024. Together, we can save more animals and shut down more labs than ever before. For the animals who are hidden in labs, away from the eyes of a caring, compassionate world, we thank you.
