In Memoriam: Dr. Jane Goodall (1934–2025)

Rise for Animals, October 2, 2025

Today, we honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, renowned conservationist, pioneering chimpanzee expert, and unwavering advocate for animals of all kinds. Dr. Goodall passed on October 1, 2025, at age 91.

Her groundbreaking work forever changed how humanity sees our closest relatives, revealing chimpanzees’ distinct personalities, deep social bonds, complex emotional lives, and remarkable ability to make and use tools.

Among her countless achievements, Dr. Goodall served on the Advisory Board of Project R&R, a former program of the New England Anti-Vivisection Society (now Rise for Animals). Project R&R was instrumental in ending the use of chimpanzees in U.S. biomedical research and testing in 2013.

At Rise for Animals, we are profoundly grateful for Dr. Goodall’s lifelong dedication to animals and the planet we share. Her legacy will continue to inspire us every day.

Around forty chimpanzees remain at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, confined to a research facility without a plan for their release. Let’s make it clear to the NIH that these chimps should know the peace and freedom of sanctuary.
