Earlier this month, we exposed a mad scientist electrocuting monkeys, who is about to get away with it. Animal protectors like you responded swiftly—sending over 34,000 messages to the people in our government who fund this torture. You didn’t stop there. With NEAVS’ support, students and other animal lovers converged on the University of Florida, who owns these experiments, in protest. We’d like you to meet three of these activists. See why they care about ending animal testing, in their own words:

Animals are not here for us to experiment on. Not for medicine, makeup, products—none of it. Just because we know how to do something with their bodies, doesn’t mean we have the right to use them. On top of that, it’s not even scientifically reliable.

I want to stop these cruel nicotine experiments on monkeys because…
There is just no reason we need to be doing this…This experiment is unreliable research, [telling us] nothing new regarding nicotine that we don’t already know. And it’s just cruel that they are injecting monkeys and then electrocuting them. I don’t think it’s right for any animals…

I feel bad about vivisection, but I would feel worse if I did nothing to stop it.

I want to stop all vivisection, especially at the University of Florida in Gainesville, my home town. I thought we had stopped primate experimentation at UF several years ago.

I believe animals deserve rights.

I want to stop these cruel nicotine experiments on monkeys because…
The science is really bad. The sample sizes are low. They repeat experiments on same animals. The animals are in cages, stressed and not enriched. It’s a confounding issue…Even if these experiments could have a good outcome for humans, I would be against it, because animals have rights. The fact that they’re restraining monkeys—these animals cannot consent to that.

What I’ll remember most about this protest…
I saw activists I have never seen or met before…This was a different collection of activists. That was cool. NEAVS really activated the community here.
