At Rise for Animals, when we talk about laboratory survivors, we’re not speaking in abstractions.
We’re talking about the individuals whose stories stay with us forever. They are the dogs, cats, pigs, primates, mice, and more who endured years—or even decades—in laboratories before finally getting their chance at a real life.
Some survivors stick with us: a kitten who was freed from animal testing at a university; a chimpanzee who traded a federal laboratory for sunlight and soft grass; and a finally-free pig who, it turns out, loves a party with lots of watermelon.
These beautiful moments happen for animals because people like you refuse to accept that suffering behind closed doors is the best we can do.
As someone who rescued and adopted a dog who survived the research industry, I know how powerful a second chance can be. I’ve watched fear give way to trust. I’ve seen the smallest freedoms—a soft bed, a patch of sun, a friendly voice—transform a life.
